My Mom: Certainly there was nobody in my life that made a bigger difference or set a bigger example in so choosing the correct path and putting in the necessary effort to become all that one is capable of being. How I do miss her so.

Here is one of many works that Mom wrote. No doubt my alphabetical prowess was inherited from her.

I Am Love

Recently
I learned a ten heart exercise
That wraps my face, trunk and legs
Inside heart shaped energy systems
Ending in a large heart stretching from way above my head
And ending at my feet,
Enveloping me in a cocoon of protection
From which I can state clearly-
“I am love – I will never forsake you,
I will always stand up for you ”

And there is strange comfort in this – resting in the familiar shape
representing our essential organ
That pumps life giving fluid to every cell in our bodies,
In one way or another.

I think of the way this organ has become inexorably linked
To love, and how we have come to know that our hearts
Have an ancient wisdom of their own
that can heal and nurture in a way that leaves us in wonder.

And I start to think about all the heart shapes in my life –
The heart rocks collected in love
by friends, that fill their house
till the love overflows  into my life,
keeping me afloat when I feel I am drowning.

The little jewellery box woven from layers of paper
By women in a far off land
As they worked to support the ones they love,
And now this  heart shaped box
Protects my most precious earrings,
Not in monetary value, but because of what memories they hold
And the people they connect me to..
Little Canada geese that have travelled the world
Hanging from my ears,
And golden elephants that represent the power of love
Of these magnificent animals that have always fascinated me
And lend me their strength now, when I feel so small…

And again the words echo in my heart…
“I am love,
I will never forsake you
I will always stand up for you.”
